We have plenty of updates to talk about going into the Friday afternoon games and our first pool standings update has been posted. I apologize for the delay as I have been traveling all week, but now it is time to focus on basketball. No championship games have taken place so right now we are accumulating losses and we are accumulating a ton of losses across the board. Out of 35 entires we only have 17 people without a loss yet. Congratulations if you are one of those 17 as that is a great achievement considering the amount of upsets that have taken place so far, which you will read about below. However, do not get too comfortable because if you're not picking champions this all won't matter.
Jack and The Gruesome Threesome are leading the way, tied in every single metric, closely followed by Pizzy and Tom. Lundo, SJS, myself, John and Sam I Am are hanging out at the bottom with multiple losses and multiple bonus point team losses. We have some hard work ahead of us to get back into contention.
Atlantic Sun
We'll start in the Atlantic Sun conference where (3E) Florida Gulf Coast lost to (2W) Bellarmine on Thursday. Four people in our pool were on dunk city, suffering a loss and losing out on potential bonus points. The Atlantic Sun conference begins semifinals on Saturday and it's all chalk with the two 1 seeds and two 2 seeds.
Big South
Next we'll move to the Big South. We saw a big upset with (5) UNC-Asheville getting beat by (12) Charleston Southern on Wednesday. Both Lundo and Sam I Am took the upset on this one, losing a team and losing bonus points. The Big South quarterfinals will be played Friday afternoon.
Horizon League
Now we're getting to a conference where we saw multiple teams lose that were picked as champions in our pool. (5) Oakland, (6) Detroit Mercy and (7) Youngstown State were all upset in the Horizon League conference tournament. This gave 7 people a loss, including the dreaded losing of bonus points. The Horizon League does not play again until Monday.
Sun Belt Conference
We wrap up in the Sun Belt conference where we saw popular pool pick (5) South Alabama, who were favored by 13 points, lose to (12) Arkansas-Little Rock. Also, Lundo suffered his 2nd loss when (7) Coastal Carolina lost to (10) Georgia Southern, in another upset game. We saw 11 people suffer a loss tonight in the Sun Belt conference, 10 of those from South Alabama.
