Tonight we have two conference tournament championship games, which is exciting, but they both tip off at the same exact time. I understand how weekend games towards the end of conference tournament week need to start at the same time or overlap, but I don't get it on a Monday with a week to go before Selection Sunday. I would have assumed these small conferences would want to showcase their conference tournament championship game, even if it had to be pushed a few hours later. My rant is now over.
We'll start off with the Southern Conference where the match up is all chalk with (1) Chattanooga vs. (2) Furman. Those of us that remain with a team in this conference are split evenly with 13 on Chattanooga and 13 on Furman. The analytics gave Furman a 41% chance to win before the conference tournament tipped off and 37% of our pool is on Furman. When we look at the spread on this game we see that Chattanooga is -2 which means we should see an even game tonight. Bonus points are not in play so regardless if you win, lose or are already eliminated from this conference, it is not a huge impact to the overall standings at this point.
At the same exact time over in the Sun Belt Conference we have an interesting matchup that is super exciting for our pool. It's a team that none us us picked in (8) Louisiana-Lafayette vs. a bonus point team that only a few of us have in (3) Georgia State. The majority will be, should be, heavily rooting for Louisiana to ensure no points come out of this conference, but for those rooting Georgia State will be in a great position to win this pool with a win tonight. This is one of those pivotal, pool changing conferences. I figured this conference would be important when I saw our final picks since we were all over the board. (3) Georgia State is the analytics favorite at 18% and our pool favorite was (1) Texas State at 34% which confirmed this conference was all over the place.
